Frequently Asked Questions
I will be adding to this list of questions as people contact me about allergies and intolerances to
citric acid.
Q: Is citric acid allergy the same thing as citrus allergy?
A: No, from what I've read, an allergy to citrus involves people having an allergic reaction to
specific substances such as limonene or proteins found in the fruit.
Q: Can I take Vitamin C if I have a citric acid allergy?
A: Yes, because Vitamin C is actually ascorbic acid, NOT citric acid. However, you won't be
able to eat some fruits or vegetables that contain citric acid AS WELL AS vitamin C (the classic example being
oranges).
